In the presence of stratification, a specific form of vertical electron-density profile arises, which determines to a large extent the character and conditions of short-wave propagation at low latitudes. Calculations performed with the method of phase trajectories give a qualitative representation of the effect of the stratification of the electron-density maximum on the formation, dynamics, and decay of additional ionospheric waveguide channels at tropical latitudes.
