The lifetimes of artificial ionospheric perturbations resulting from the motion of ionospheric plasma under the effect of acoustic gravity waves are estimated. For typical values of acoustic gravity wave parameters, the characteristic time of scattered signal relaxation is estimated at 1-10 s. It is concluded that, for a sufficiently thick scattering layer, the large-scale velocity field produced by an acoustic gravity wave of sufficiently large amplitude may lead to noticeable distortions of the resonantly scattering grating and to the attenuation of the scattered signal, which is consistent with experimental data.
