The effect of the magnetic pressure on gravitational collapse leading to star formation is analyzed for a wide range of masses and initial values of the temperature and of the field. The collapse time increases, passing sometimes from free fall to quasi-equilibrium. Consideration is also given to the possibility of a cloud beginning to collapse and then being stopped by the increased magnetic pressure. This last possibility is real, even if limited to particular cases.
