Magnetogram data were gathered at nine stations in India and four in the U.S.S.R., and indices were formulated in terms of days of the year with an equatorial counter-electrojet and days without the jet. The readings were made from July 1975 to the end of Dec. 1977. Latitudinal variations of the daily ranges of the solar variation (S) were made for the horizontal (H) and vertical (Z) components, as well as the declination (D), of the variations. Measurements were also performed on the lunar daily variations L(M2) for the three components. The S focus was near Tashkent during a normal day, moved slightly south on a counter-electrojet day, and shifted northward by 8-10 deg in the winter. The S variation in declination increased 50 percent during a counter-electrojet day, compared to a normal day, while the horizontal component ranges were equivalent to electrojet days. Variations of the ranges of D and H were irregular for the L(M2). The additional current system associated with a counter-electrojet day was situated between 23-27 deg N, at nearly the same place that the focus of the lunar current system was estimated to reside.
