This paper shows that superstrong magnetic fields (such as those of
magnetars) can increase the energy generation rate many times in the
crust of neutron stars. This result undoubtedly not only influences the
cooling of neutron stars and the X-ray luminosity observed of neutron
stars but also the evolution of neutron stars.
