Observations made in 1984 are used to study the dependence of the bandwidth of a spectral filter on the short-exposure transfer function in stellar interferometry. From the observation of three different stars, the rms phase fluctuations due to the atmospheric turbulence are determined. The optical path fluctuations were found to be in the lambda-to-2(lambda) range on the three viewing nights. The bandwidth of the filter is shown to increase with decreasing power spectrum of the short-exposure transfer function. Observational results are compared with theoretical predictions.
