The parasitic polarities that appear during the life of a sunspot are always signalled in preceding rotations by a filament pointing to the region, and this holds true at every latitude. These filaments indicate a rigid local rotation during at least one solar rotation. The apparent shift of the spot associated with the parasitic polarity also features some anomalies: it is just when the spot by its proper motion reaches the region pointed to by the filament of the preceding rotation that the parasitic polarity appears and the movement of the spot ceases momentarily. The spot remains stable during the life of the parasitic polarity and begins to decrease as soon as the latter disappears. Parastic polarities provide an opportunity to show that an emergence of flux is associated with a region with zero differential rotation.
