The fluctuations of millimeter radio waves propagating through a layer of nonspherical hydrometeor scatterers are examined in the context of the first aproximation of the theory of multiple scattering. It is shown that the effect of particle nonsphericity on the fluctuations of millimeter radio waves is particularly pronounced in the long-wave part of the millimeter band. In the case of raindrops, the consideration of the particle shape and their orientation in space makes it possible to explain in qualitative terms the discrepancy between experimental measurements obtained in this wavelength region.
