The frequency distribution of astrophysical maser radiation is an importantingredient in analyzing the properties of astrophysical maser sources. The frequency profile of the absorption coefficient is studied analytically and computationally including the effect of elastic collisions. The evolution of the profile is detailedly discussed. Two important features that result from elastic collisions are: (1) The frequency profile of the absorption coefficient in the saturated regime becomes narrower and sharper. (2) Line narrowing continues during early saturation. These may help explain some observed narrow maser features.
