A new model for the effect of high-energy particles on the middle atmosphere is used to calculate profiles of the longitudinal, Pedersen, and Hall conductivities, taking both positive and negative ions into account. Specifically, the model is used to analyze the global atmospheric-electric circuit in the 0-100-km height range. The effects of galactic cosmic rays, Forbush decreases, and solar cosmic rays are considered. For each of these phenomena, a calculation is made of the resistance of the atmospheric column in regions where lightning storms (playing the role of loads in the atmospheric-electric circuit) are absent.
