Empirical formulas are obtained, expressing the relationship between the optical transfer function at a certain spatial frequency and the values of the energy concentration functions within the limits of a circle having a radius equal to four and six optical units. These relations can be useful for a quick estimate of the energy distribution in the circle of confusion for highly corrected optical systems having small fields of view in the presence of masking of the central portion of the entrance pupil.
