The solution of the Dirac equation for the electron in the inhomogeneous magnetic field H(z) = H sech to the 2nd (ay) is discussed and it is shown that spontaneous electron-positron pair creation is possible, provided certain relations between the strength of the field, the inhomogeneity parameter and momenta are satisfied. The realization of this possibility in the case of a neutron star is examined.
