It is demonstrated that a field of propagating inertial gravity waves can act as a dynamo in a rotating, stably stratified, electrically conducting fluid. Individual inertial gravity waves possess helicity due to the action of the Coriolis acceleration and therefore an α-effect can result. Thus, a field of inertial gravity waves can generate magnetism through dynamo action of the α2-type.
