Variations of the latitudinal dimensions of the nighttime part of the auroral oval during the intense magnetic storm of March 1-4, 1982 is analyzed on the basis of Intercosmos-Bulgaria-1300 measurements of precipitating 1-keV electrons and field-aligned currents. It is shown that the width of the nighttime region of auroral electron precipitation during the development of magnetic storms increases during individual substorms.
