A method is presented to analyze the dynamics of soft landing of spherically-shaped probes with a component of approach velocity parallel to the surface. As an example, the change in the parameters of motion of the probe vs. slope of the landing surface and time is examined. The method was applied to optimize the landing of the Venera-7 and Venera-8 probes, and can be used both for probes of spherical shape and for probes with partially-spherical frontal surface.
