Scientific paper

The dynamics of interstellar gas, partially ionized by solar UV radiation, is analyzed. Ionization is shown to result in two pressures which must be taken into account: the pressure of the neutral component and the additional partial pressure of the ionized component. The existence of these two pressures leads to acceleration and, consequently, cooling of the gas stream at distances on the order of 10 AU from the sun. The possible role of this process in the deceleration of the solar wind is discussed.
