This paper describes some new simulations of molecular cloud dynamics. The adopted model consists of a fairly thin ring of molecular clouds having a realistic mass function. The clouds move in a stationary galactic potential and are subject to perturbations from the nearest neighbours and also a spiral density wave. The mass spectrum is modified by mergers due to inelastic collisions as well as disruptions of giant molecular clouds. Four models with 5000 interacting clouds have been studied over several galactic rotations. These simulations yield information on the growth of noncircular velocities and the evolution of the mass function. The gravitational encounters maintain the thickness of an initially thin disc, exhibiting a small mass dependence.
