Generation of harmonic Langmuir modes during beam-plasma interaction process has been observed in both laboratory and computer simulation experiments. They are also be highly relevant to the dynamics of energetic electron beam, generated during solar flares and which propagate in interplanetary space. However, the harmonic Langmuir mode generation and its dynamical behavior has not been properly discussed theoretically. In this paper, rigorous analytic expressions for harmonic Langmuir mode dispersion relations are obtained, and are compared against the simulated frequency-wave number spectra. Also, wave kinetic equations for these modes as well as particle kinetic equations are derived and numerically solved. The results are compared against fully nonlinear Vlasov simulation results.
