A method for the solution of the VLF reverse problem in terms of an ionospheric complex reflection coefficient has been developed. The method may be used when the second ionospheric ray is appreciable for the recorded VLF fields (the middle radio source zone). It allows a systematic analysis of low ionospheric disturbances to be made. The method was used in an investigation of the sequence of the REP, SID and PCA events on 29 September 1989. The dynamics (the functions of time) of an effective height and an ionospheric reflection coefficient module for the first ionospheric ray has been obtained for each event. The PCA event was of moderate intensity (the minimal effective height was 48-49 km) and the REP and SID events were comparable with it as regards the height disturbance. The reflection coefficient module was practically constant during the PCA event and decreased during the REP event. An estimation of electron concentration in the vicinity of the ionospheric effective height is given.
