The distance crossed by an intense nondivergent ion beam injected from a space vehicle transverse to the magnetic field is calculated. A time dependence is established for this distance when a background electric field is absent. When the background plasma has an electric field or when the space vehicle moves transverse to the magnetic field, the corresponding distance is independent of time, while the background electric field is screened in the vicinity of the beam.
