The evolution of gravity in the absence of matter is dealt with by a third-order scalar tensor model, with the scalar field contained in the metric. A linearized symmetric theory derived from Yang's fourth-order action is shown to be two-tensor decoupled. Attention is given to correlations between the fourth-order system which determines the dynamical structure of the metric tensor and the third-order Yang model of gravity. Helicity-3 fields are examined with respect to Yang's action rather than a pure gravity, i.e., a one-tensor-field.
