The present paper analyzes fluctuations in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) observed by the eccentrically orbiting Explorer 33 and 34 spacecraft, using dynamic spectral and wave normal vector methods. The wave normal vector of hydromagnetic (HM) waves with frequencies in the neighborhood of the low-pass filter cutoff frequency fc parallels the average IMF, B0(fc). Therefore, Alfven and fast waves propagate mainly along B0(fc). Nose frequencies from three dynamic spectral nose-type patterns are in the ratio of 4:2:1. It is concluded that frequency drifts in the MH region depend principally upon the Doppler effect due to directional variation in B0.
