We present a numerical model which simultaneously calculates the spectrophotometric evolution of gas-rich galaxies together with the chemical and dust evolution of their interstellar medium. For spiral galaxies the corresponding influence of dust evolution on SEDs, colors, and heavy element abundances in the gaseous phase is studied in detail. Confronting model results for spiral galaxies with the chemical abundances observed in Damped Ly-alpha Systems, we conclude that spiral galaxies may be considered as DLAs absorbers.
