The paper obtains and analyzes a numerical solution to nonlinear equations describing the evolution of irregularities of charged-particle density under the effect of diffusion and drift in the ionospheric plasma. Two phenomena are observed under specified conditions: (1) bifurcation of an irregularity under the effect of a dispersion spreading mechanism; and (2) splitting of an irregularity into separate strata extending along the magnetic field, with a transverse scale of 50-50 m, probably caused by drift instability.
