In-situ multipoint measurements of downstream waves and plasma are used to identify the composition of magnetosheath turbulence. Instability thresholds for the identified waves are investigated. It is shown that similar instabilities must excite waves downstream of SNR related shocks. The effect of downstream turbulence, similar to that observed at the terrestrial bow shock, on the reduction of the observed polarization of the radio emissions from SNR is investigated.
