A 3D numerical experiment is conducted to investigate the behavior of columnar downflows in a deep convection zone. The downflows pump low-entropy fluid from the top to the lower region and create an entropy gradient reversal inside the convection zone. The negative flux of kinetic energy carried by the downflows was found to decrease in this region.
