An examination of data for the period 1974-1977 indicates the absence of a statistical correlation between the solar magnetic sector structure and the vorticity area index. In contrast, a correlation has been reported for the period 1963-1973. Reasons for the difference between the two periods are considered, and it is suggested that the years 1963-1973 yielded an anomalous result which was of unusually high statistical significance. The present finding weakens the evidence for a sun-weather correlation which involves the vorticity area index reaching a minimum one day after the passage of a solar magnetic sector boundary.
