The question of whether a quantum system with no long-range interaction radiates as a result of excitation by the Unruh-Davies heat bath is addressed by considering the effect on an inertial harmonic oscillator of a uniformly accelerated oscillator in the vacuum of a scalar field. It is found that, contrary to the prevalent view in the literature, if all the quantum correlations present in this experiment are taken into account, no radiation will be detected.
