Line profiles of rotating disks are calculated, including relativistic beaming, gravitational redshifts and transverse Doppler redshifts, in a reexamination of the kinematics of gaseous disks in quasars and Seyfert galaxies. The asymmetries of these profiles are found to not resemble those observed, which instead suggest that the velocity dispersion of the broad line-emitting region decreases with radius in the quasar in keeping with bound orbital motion and radial inflow or outflow. Although rotation is an unlikely means of producing broad emission lines, it remains a theoretical means of aligning radio jet sources and producing electromagnetic fields and nonthermal particles. While recent observations of a small systematic blueshift asymmetry of high excitation broad emission lines relative to narrow lines and broad lines of low excitation seem inconsistent with rotating emission line disk models, they could arise from the occultation of radially outflowing clouds by an opaque accretion disk.
