The magnetic field configuration near the polar cusps is calculated using a plane model of the magnetopause and a description of DCF-current perturbation, modeling conditions in the reconnection region. The equipotential lines of electrostatic potential and the field-aligned currents are projected into the ionosphere along magnetic field lines calculated in this way. A model for the spatial distribution of field-aligned currents in the cusp region for different IMF orientations is proposed on the basis of these calculations.
