A study of the distribution of solar activity in the Northern Hemisphere has been made for the period Sept. 1965 to Aug., 1974 over 120 solar rotations. The active regions are identified by the location of solar flares of all importance taking place in these regions. It is observed that for extended periods of time the active regions are mainly confined to two longitudinal zones about 180 deg apart. The study also reveals that there exists a systematic shift to the east in the flaring longitudes by about 6 deg per solar rotation, which indicates that the zones of activity shift in time in an opposite direction to that of solar rotation. Such a well-defined pattern of two longitudinal zones of activity, has not been observed in the Southern Hemisphere during this period.
