We determine SLOCC equivalence for $n$-qubit pure states in terms of the
ranks of coefficient matrices associated with the states. The ranks are
invariant under SLOCC and give rise to a simple way of distinguishing all the
degenerate families under SLOCC. In addition, we show that the ranks of all
reduced density matrices are invariant under SLOCC.
