'Photometric' properties of the end-products of dissipationless collapse are analyzed to show that a system can appear either boxy or disky depending on the viewing angle. Several consequences of this result are illustrated. It is suggested that, similarly to the case of boxy bulges studied by Combes et al. (1990), a number of mechanisms can produce similar deviations from 'pure' ellipses.
