We present an analysis of two methods for star formation history recovery from galaxy spectra. We show that the spectrum of distant galaxies can be well fitted using uniquely two spectral components, and that the addition of more components doesn't improve the quality of the fitting. However, the determination of some physical parameters like mass can differ in some cases by a factor of two depending on the number of spectral components included in the fitting. We present the results of a theoretical experiment designed to compare the parameter recovery with different number of components in various scenarios of star formation history.
