We present a spacetime discretization of the Klein Gordon equation, whose quadratic corrections to the continuum dispersion relation can be interpreted as Lorentz-invariance violating (LIV) effects. This discretization is based on a time-smearing procedure which, while violating micro-causality, does not preclude the emergence of macroscopically causal signals. The propagation of these signals is governed by a modified Klein Gordon equation resumming non-local effects at all orders in the ratio of the wavelength to the LIV length scale.
