Auroral and geomagnetic-variation data are used to study the characteristics of the explosive phase of a substorm in the morning sector. It is shown that the main features of the explosive phase in this sector are brightening of the near-pole boundary of diffuse auroras, with movement along it of the brightness gradient and the formation on it of an omega pole or an auroral jet; and intensification of the auroral electrojet and a burst of Pi 1C pulsations. Possible mechanisms for the formation of wavelike auroral structures in relation to different development regimes of a magnetospheric substorm are examined.
