The Nearby Supernova Factory reports the discovery of supernova SNF20050701-003 (coordinates RA 21:40:08.2 DEC +10:39:14.0 J2000.0) in images obtained July 01.5 UT with an approximate magnitude of 19.4 (calibrated to R) using the QUEST II camera on the Palomar Oschin 48-inch telescope as a part of the JPL Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking component of the Palomar Consortium. A spectrum (range 320-1000 nm) of this object, obtained July 05.6 UT with the Supernova Integral Field Spectrograph on the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter telescope, shows it to be a Type II supernova at an age of a few weeks past explosion.
