Calculations using the neutron tunnelling model indicate that diproton
production is the dominant mechanism by which the
3He(3He, 4He)2p reaction can proceed
below the Coulomb barrier, The implications of this result are discussed
in relation to the hydrogen burning cycle in the sun.
