Image processing results of a mile long face-like feature in the Cydonia region of Mars imaged by the Viking Orbiter in 1976 are presented. Following digital image enhancements of the feature, the three-dimensional structure of the face was derived using a single image shape-from-shading algorithm, and synthetic views were generated using computer graphics techniques. Results indicate that the impression of facial features persists over a wide range of illumination and viewing conditions.
