The problem of reflection of light in an inhomogeneous atmosphere is studied under the assumption that isotropic light scattering takes place and that the albedo of single scattering depends on optical depth. The reflection coefficient can be obtained through an auxiliary function with the aid of a formula given by Bellman and Kalaba (1956). The auxiliary function is obtained through an integral equation which can be solved exactly when the albedo can be expressed as an exponential series in the optical depth.
