Previous satellite measurement, in the evening sector, of the characteristics of diffuse precipitations of soft electrons into the subauroral ionosphere lead to the conclusion that the equatorial boundary of these precipitations constitutes a projection of the inner edge of the plasma layer to ionospheric heights. The present paper is a continuation of a study of the diffuse precipitation zone during prolonged magnetic disturbances by direct comparison of the positions of the equatorial boundary of soft-electron diffuse precipitations, measured on board the Oreol 1 satellite, with data on the position of the plasmapause and the characteristics of the distribution of low-energy electron intensities measured approximately at the same time in the equatorial plane on board Explorer 45.
