A model for diffractive events in high energy hadron collisions is constructed and the charged particle multiplicity distribution following from this is calculated. The model is a nova-type model in which the excitation spectrum of the nova behaves like M-2 for large M and in which the nova decays longitudinally in its rest frame. These features are motivated by simple multiperipheral arguments. Implications of the results on multiperipheral and uncorrected jet model descriptions of the pionization component are discussed.
