Peaks in the energy spectrum of energetic radiation belt electrons (100 keV to 1 MeV) are evidence of pitch angle scattering by wave-particle interactions. Low-altitude satellites in the inner magnetosphere have reported two types of spectral peaks, corresponding to two different scattering mechanisms. However, previously published reports have focused on either on one type or on the other type of peak. We present here a side-by-side comparison of the two kinds of spectral phenomena in order to make clear the differences between them.
