Analyses of sets of dielectronic carbon and silica satellite radiation data are presented. The carbon satellite radiation was obtained with laser irradiation of a planar slab target, while the silicon radiation data came from a series of imploded microballoons. The electron density for both sets are determined from the Stark broadening of the Lyman resonance lines. Extensions to satellite lines of higher-Z ions is shown to depend on establishing the absence of inner-shell excitation and the reabsorption of the satellite radiation, and sulfur satellite transitions are presented. The predictions for transitions agree with experimental data, and the method is concluded to be effective for plasmas with densities in the range 10 to the 20th-10 to the 23rd per cu cm.
