The present consideration of conditions for convective stability in the protoearth's hypothesized primary atmosphere notes that novel data, indicating Ne dissolution and a moderate mass-accretion rate, yield stricter conditions on the existence of such a primary atmosphere than the data of Mizuno and Wetherill (1984). The solar-type atmosphere around the protoearth is projected to have begun to escape before the planetary mass was smaller than 0.6 earth masses. It was implicitly assumed that dissolution equilibrium should not be achieved at the planetary surface, due to its frequent stirring by impacts.
