We propose to make 7-beam mosaics of the nuclei of NGC 253, NGC 1365, NGC 1808, and NGC 3256 in the HCO+(1-0) transition at 89188.52 MHz and the HNC(1-0) transition at 90663.57 MHz. The resulting maps will be combined and interpreted together with existing HCN(1-0) and HNC(1-0) observations (Ott et al. 2007). These observations allow study of the molecular medium at an intermediate levels of resolution and spatial integration, that form the link between observing individual star-formation regions in the Galaxy and unresolved extra-galactic emission regions. The data will be interpreted using extensive physical and chemical modeling of the molecular environment. The relative strength of these three molecular lines across the nuclear regions will be used to determine the gas density, the type and strength of the radiation field, and the amount of energy deposited by mechanical heating resulting from star-formation feedback.
