Problems involved in the diagnosing the optical status of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) are reviewed with emphasis on the task of determining the actual hyperboloidal shape of the primary mirror. Based on the results of several studies, a revised value of K = -1.0139 (an average of the best estimates derived from the analysis of the reflective null corrector and no-orbit star images) was recommended as the best value for the design of the second-generation Wide Field and Planetary Camera so as to restore the imaging ability of the HST to its original specification.
