The expansion of a microsubstorm focus in the explosive phase is examined. Optical data confirm that the expansion rate of this focus decreases with development of the active phase. This finding makes it possible to describe the development of certain geophysical phenomena of a substorm complex that are characteristic for the spatiotemporal microsubstorm phase examined here, including irregular Pi 1B pulsations.
