Laser induced fluorescence measurements on xenon are performed at the Institute for Space Systems of the Universität Stuttgart which will be applied to plasma diagnostic investigations of ion thrusters in the near future. The two-photon excitation of neutral xenon is described as well as calibration procedures and the basic methods for particle density determination.
