In order to clarify the role of the mode conversion process from plasma waves to LO-mode radio waves in the equatorial region of the plasmasphere, we have performed simulation studies and comparison with plasma waves data obtained by Akebono satellite (Oya et al., 1989). In the simulation study, density gradient used in the simulation box was determined based on the observations of UHR waves. Wave normal angle of incident plasma waves was also determined based on observations of AC electric field vector in antenna plane with considering dispersion relation of the plasma waves. As a result of numerical simulation of mode conversion process in the plasma density inhomogeneity, we could reproduce LO-mode waves in cold plasma and RX-mode waves with energetic particles. Comparison studies with observations suggest that mode conversion processes produced in the simulation occur actually in the inner magnetosphere. In the simulation and comparison studies mentioned above, following wave data analyses were needed: (1) UHR frequency determination in Akebono plasma wave spectrogram, (2) conversion of coordinate systems of AC electric field vector in order to obtain wave normal angle, and (3) comparison of spectrogram reproduced by the simulation with that measured by the Akebono satellite. These analyses have been done not in many cases but in a few cases. In order to proceed comparison studies between simulation and observation, it will be useful to apply the software tools for combined analysis of multi satellite instrument data and multi ground observation data such as THEMIS Science Data Analysis Software (TDAS). We are therefore planning (a) conversions of Akebono data and simulation data into Common Data Format (CDF) and (b) some modification of TDAS for wave data analysis.
